Becoming a Crystallographer

This is the blog of a future crystallographer, not that crystallography is the main area of discussion. I'll maybe mention it once in a while, while writing about my life and other things.

Do this, do that

I think I think slower than the other people here or else I'm stupid or just seem like it. I think people are starting to treat me like I'm stupid or slow. It's sort of annoying. Or well more than sort of annoying. But there's really nothing to do about it. I know I've never been one of those smart people who let other people really know about it. Like I think some people here are. I think that's just annoying. Or like socially not that smart. Or at least I like to think that I have some advantage in comparison to the others here. But in the end it doesn't really matter. I cope.

Was supposed to go see the Street Parade today at lunch (now) but the weather isn't that good so I'm at the university just having lunch. Kind of a disappointment but I don't really care. Who wants to see people having fun and dancing without cares while having to constantly watch the time in order to get back to lectures.

But I think I can handle people telling me what to do like I'm slow. I think i can handle the constant rain. I just have to find my ipod and listen to some music tonight. Like at breakfast I heard some music and it was totally weird how it went like straight to the hearth sort of and made me feel better even though it wasn't my favorite music. I haven't listened to music all week. I hope the rain ends since we're having a barbecue tonight.

It is weird, I constantly get the feeling, that I am slower than others. In the end it's propably just lazyness. U know, since I know I'll be able to get it later, I don't bother to learn something straight away, but to think about it later. That's more a scientific way to handle information anyhow. I think you just know you are smart so you don't have to try to show it. and it gives other people a careless image, which can be read as lack of intelligence.
I recommend music. It really is important. I find I remember stuff better with music too. ;)
I hope u have fun there even though missing the street parade.
Also, let me know if you are coming to spend the night this weekend.

Sounds like your doing Ok over there and that's good to hear :)

And that feeling of you being slower than others is unreal. Ever thought that you might be learning more than they, more precicely, more analytically and well - better than they. So you actually understand what's being taught (and why it is being taught, how it differs from other things taught before and what you might use it for later on) and not just memorize it without thinking.

The people that have a good memory as usually the fastest to 'take in' stuff and they sometimes make good grades if their memory lasts thru the entire course. BUT next course when they're supposed to build on facts learned before, or actually do some analytical thinking on issues - that's when they're completely lost - where as someone who's actually thought about it when hearing it first starts to shine.

Just my thoughts and I am 100% sure you're smarter than all of the others there...
