Becoming a Crystallographer

This is the blog of a future crystallographer, not that crystallography is the main area of discussion. I'll maybe mention it once in a while, while writing about my life and other things.

German course

Second German class yesterday. Went by nicely. The teacher is an old lady and seem very nice. The atmosphere is relaxed and there are some 20 of us students. There's people from Ukraine, Greece, Irak, somewhere in Africa (Togo or something), China and some other countries I guess. The only problem I now have is where I sit. I did my "almost born to be a leader" -thing and sat somewhere close to the front (the tables are arranged in a rectangle of sorts like in a circle so everyone can see everyone). (Born leaders sit front and center in case someone does not know this fact learned at an AIESEC conference. I used to sit in the back to the side but decided I wanted to be almost born to be a leader and changed this habit some years ago.) The thing is that the person siting next to me, in the very front, is this lady who speaks a lot, but not to me. We have to be a pair in the pair activities and she just isn't co-operating. Might have to do with me not seeming very talkative since I'm not that good in German. But it's really annoying since I don't think I'll learn that good if she does not speak to me since then I will not speak to her.

I know this problem could most likely be solved by just moving somewhere else to sit but it's hard with everyone always picking the same seat as the first time, as is the custom in the world. I did try to sit one seat away from her last time closer to this other girl but the during the pair activities I had to move back next to the lady. Luckily on thursday we are going to a different classroom so I can sit somewhere else at least if I get there early enough. Hopefully it will work.

I guess there are some rules to which article comes with which word like der with words ending in r but for words like pizza it's just about guessing right. I think it was die Pizza. It would have been helpful had I taken the grammar book I've been keeping since highschool but for some reason I left it in Jyväskylä. Smart thinking.

Having tonight to go to the store and such and having called my friend yesterday and him saying that we will be staying in a hotel I'm not nearly as stressed about the trip anymore. I even bought some travel size shampoo and such yesterday. All should be good as long as the weather is good.

One problem I am now soon facing is to do with laundry. Since I can only buy washing tokens on thursdays at six o'clock and I have German classes on thursdays at six o'clock, I now have no idea how I will get more washing tokens. I have 2 left but that will just not be enough till december. I also want to buy some drying tokens since I have none. Oh, what am I to do? And yes this is indeed most likely the most serious problem I am now facing. That is just how my life is.

dead pizza and washing tokens. how in the earth are you coping with those larger than life issues.. ;)

Germany class sounds good and effective (talk about international studies) even if some nasty old lady is trying to ruin it for you. Hope you enjoy it anyhow! :)

    Take care sis!
