Becoming a Crystallographer

This is the blog of a future crystallographer, not that crystallography is the main area of discussion. I'll maybe mention it once in a while, while writing about my life and other things.

Oktoberfest, my way

Went to Oktoberfest in Munich on Saturday. Huge beer festival in case someone does not know. Had to leave on the 5:30 am train to get a table or something and to be there before one. (I do not get why in the end we had to leave so -add bad word here- early but that's what other people who planned the trip said we had to do.) So I woke up at 4 on Saturday "morning". We had to take all regional trains because we had this weekend ticket for five that only cost like 30 eur for us all so the trip took like 6 hours. The trip there went by rather fast though most likely because I was kind of out of it having woken up so early.

Oktober fest is like a big amusement park with tons of rides and stuff and we were planning to go on one but apparently everyone else chickened out or something so we did not go. We did get seats at this beer tent where they had a band and beer. Huge 1 liter servings of beer. There was also food like 1/2 a chicken if you wanted it. Very German. Well when we got there at one I thought since I was so out of it and feeling funny that it was not a good idea to have any alcohol yet so I did not get a beer. Everyone else did. So there was singing and raising glasses with everyone doing the "prost"-song and hitting their glasses together so beer flew in the air. Women waitresses carrying very many of the 1 liter beer mugs at a time and with huge trays of food for people. Very hot and cramped in the seats with lots of smoke from people smoking. Very German as in just what I thought it would be like.

Oh and many men were in lederhosen and women in traditional dresses. It was all quite funny first to see people in lederhosen.

Once my friends had drunk hte huge beers we went out to chill out of the smoke and heat of the beer tent. We found a place on a hill and also went to sleep. I think the others were kind of sick from drinking too much beer. Well as it turns out we did not go back into one of the beer tents and left at eight pm. So one might guess what this means. -I went to Oktoberfest but did not buy a beer!- How cool is that. Or weird. I did mean to buy one and also was going to buy a pretzel to go with it but it just didn't happen. I did have a few sips from my friends beers so I did have beer at Oktoberfest but just not more than a few sips. Didn't have any other alcoholic beverages either in case you are wondering.

Got home at 5 the next morning being starving and very tired. Slept till three in the afternoon. The trip back seemed to take forever.

What did I learn?
-I do not handle sleep deprevation well. Or I don't complain as such but it just doesn't work for me. I was feeling weird all day.
-I like men in lederhosen. After the innitial shock and ridiculousness of the whole outfit I did begin to like it. It might also have been because there were so many young good-looking men in the outfit. So I like men in lederhosen. I want to see more men in lederhosen. (They are now officially on my checking out list along with other qualities I you might know or want to know. Translation: a man with lederhosen walks past - I look twice.) I also liked the womens outfits. I might not have enough cleavage for the complete look but it might not be so bad.

So I had an interesting weekend. Not so much fun as such but certainly an experience. I've now been to Oktoberfest. No need to go again (though there would be more men in lederhosen...). Now I have to go to the store. I have like no food at home. Tomorrow is a grillfest of my department at work. I'm going. Should be interesting.

Um yeah, too bad they didn't wanna go in for seconds. It seems like the people are in some way too grown up if they don't wanna ride and would rather leave early to go than go home. U know, like taking the morning train after a night out. ;) Though I haven't done that in ages either. But would consider if it was Oktober fest.
Let's hope u have a great grill fest! Let's hope there's also men in lederhosen there. ;)

HAhahaaa ;) lederhosen and beer, definately not my pick for a good night out. I seriously dislike beer and well the other part should be self-explanatory ;) Sounds like you had fun though and even with the lack of sleep managed to stay positive :)

aah hell.. back to work - budgeting for 2007 is calling.
